Utah dentist promotes oral health through Facebook page
Nearly everyone has a Facebook profile these days, and one dentist in Salt Lake City, Utah, is looking to take advantage of the website's popularity by promoting the importance of oral hygiene. Dr. David Blanco recently launched a Facebook page for his practice and encourages area citizens to subscribe to get useful tips on how to maintain healthy teeth.
Blanco's initiative seems to have paid off so far. The page already has 289 followers, all of whom get updates ranging from promotions offered by the practice as well as access to its blog, which provides helpful dental health information. Blanco says that his practice joining Facebook was bound to happen.
"With so many of my patients online, it was inevitable that my practice joined Facebook," he said. "Having a Facebook page I can now interact more closely with my patients, as well as offering them helpful tips about their dental health. By becoming a 'fan' my patients can remain up-to-date with our practice and special events."
February is Dental Health Awareness Month, so Blanco's initiative is well-timed. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 78 percent of children between 2 and 17 visited a dentist in 2009. To help raise the number, Health Smiles Healthy Children provides care to low-income families. Frendo supports the organization through fee-free donations. Sign up now.
